The other day, Lord Tebbit, the one-time Conservative Party chairman, accused President Obama of the “xenophobic display of partisan governmental petulance that is presidential” while London’s mayor, Boris Johnson, complained that the United States had been unleashing a wave of “anti-British rhetoric.”
