
The full time had come. My bachelor’s level had been newly in hand, and I also decided to accept the job that is first was being offered ( it absolutely was the Great Recession and driving a car of unemployment was very real). Thankfully, working with senior high school seniors as they navigated the college application process turned out to become a great fit for me! Focusing too much on that which you can’t change.
Would you keep worrying about that C you got in freshman English? Are you regretting your decision to give up the track team? Many students spend their senior fall focusing on the past, and it drains their time and energy like Snapchat drains my phone battery. In place of stressing about things you can’t change, take your time writing a well thought out essay, striving for great senior 12 months grades, and putting together the best application you can. Think upward and onward!
Ignoring the advice of your elders.
Would you nod if your counselor speaks then instantly wipe the conversation from your own memory? Do you reject your parents’ guidance like it’s your task? I am shocked…really, I Will Be. Keep in brain that, with it,’ the adults in your life can offer important insight into your application process (and even help you identify your strengths so you can better highlight them) while they might not always be ‘hip and. Ignoring their advice can cut you faraway from some pretty information that is valuable so why not take all of the help you’ll get?
Falling in love.
No, we’m not talking about the lab partner you’ve possessed a crush on for a long time (them already) though you should really just tell! I’m dealing with the head-over-heels feeling students sometimes get for one university on their list. There’s a difference between having a first choice and being so fixated on a school that you can’t even fathom going somewhere else. It is called the school process for a reason—no one knows exactly how it will end! You are admitted to your top choice (and obviously I hope your top choice is USC), I strongly encourage you to keep an open mind and find a number of institutions you would love to attend though I sincerely hope.
Avoidance.
Are you currently making things towards the last minute? Have you been putting down looking up what supplementary essays you’ll need to write? Are you currently reading this post on 14th january? You are procrastinating! Despite what you may tell your self, no one works best under force (trust me…this is a ‘do as I say, much less I do’ situation). Multiple drafts would be the key to a good essay, and making significant progress before the eleventh hour is the sole defense against an application that is sloppy. You’ve got enough on your plate senior year. If you don’t have an idea yet for how you are going to finish all of your essays, supplements, applications, etc. make one! You don’t wish to rush (or worse, forget something) in this technique. So stop looking over this web log and get to work— you are known by me may do it!
Pupil Highlight: USC Student Body President, Edwin Saucedo

It’s Natalie Guevara and I’m excited to take effect with our weblog. While discovering topic ideas, I looked at common questions we get from prospective pupils and one of my favorites is definitely: what’s it like to be described as a learning pupil at USC? And though I’m an alumna of the university and had my own great experiences…I actually want you to listen to from current pupils with a bigger range of majors/involvement/background/etc. So rather than hear about most of the things that are cool have to say (many of you get an adequate amount of that), I’ll find current students to tell you about their experiences. The student Body President for the Undergraduate Student Government for our first installment, we have Edwin Saucedo. He’s originally from South Gate, CA and it is set to graduate this coming May 2017. Here’s what he previously to express:
Four years ago, I found myself where many of you may well be right now: frustrated with my personal statement and tired of looking for the perfect college. It absolutely was hard enough trying to navigate university applications when neither of my parents spoke English or had pursued degree themselves. The stress of finding the best place to pay the following four years was extremely overwhelming.
As I think back inside my college application process the first thing i must say is, everything worked out much better than i possibly could have ever expected. I never thought I would end up at USC when I applied to college. I grew up in Southern Gate, CA where just 6% associated with the total population pursues a college degree. It’s understandable, We never imagined i’d find myself being the pupil Body President my year that is senior right here. The four years in between my year that is senior of college and senior year of university have triggered a quantity of classes, experiences, and friendships I never expected. However, the combination of all these unexpected life outcomes has indeed led me to where I am today.
Being Student Body President at one of the most prestigious universities into the country is an intimidating job. It’s not easy trying to represent nearly 19,000 students who originate from over 100 different countries, are of all different races, and have really diverse backgrounds that are economic. However, its additionally a very rewarding possibility. Every i get to go into our student government office and ask myself: how can I make this university a better place for all students day? That is our goal in student government, to create the greatest undergraduate experience, and that’s why I decided to run for this position last spring.
I spend at least twenty hours each week listening to students’ experiences, asking them exactly how I possibly could be of any service, and connecting them to your appropriate channels on this campus. On one other part of things, I advocate on their behalf to administration in efforts to create better campus policies, address any issues, and plan for future years of our campus. My favorite part however is taking the info I discovered from both students and administrators and coming up with unique solutions to addressing these problems.
In student government we pride ourselves in being innovators and thinkers that are creative. We challenge each other’s ideas and provides suggestions about improvements. During the end of the day, we produce proposals how to address each and every issue. It is through these imaginative proposals that we have been able to get our students free Uber rides from 7pm to 2 am and have gotten a regular farmers market on campus. But our work doesn’t end there. Over the course of the year our pupil government puts on over 300 free events for our students. These range from intimate conversations about our education system to bringing speakers like Laverne Cox or musicians like Diplo for all of our students to take pleasure from.
We shape the undergraduate experience and give students the opportunity to explore perspectives beyond their own; because that is what university is about. Aside from yourself and be challenged by others whether you go to USC or choose elsewhere as your new home, dare to challenge. As President I always encounter students perspectives that differ from shmoop write essay for me my very own, they’re not right or wrong but different, and that is okay.
As you approach the last months of the faculty application process don’t worry the maximum amount of about where you are going to find yourself, but rather everything you will do as soon as you have there. University is time for you explore and find your passion. I came across my passion within student government and working towards improving USC for present and students that are future. For you, that passion might lie in another activity. Regardless, enjoy your final months of high school and get ready to embark in a new journey full of unique and exciting experiences.
